Compliance Issues in Gastroenterology

Michael E. Anderson, JD is a partner in the Washington, DC office of Arent Fox PLLC, and is a member of the firm’s Health Law Practice Group. Mr. Anderson concentrates his practice in the areas of health care counseling and litigation, with particular emphasis on transactional and regulatory counseling, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, and fraud and abuse counseling (including the civil and criminal defense of fraud-related allegations, the conducting of internal investigations, and the development and implementation of corporate compliance programs). He serves as outside counsel to a variety of health care entities, including academic and community-based general and specialty hospitals, individual and group-based physician practices, clinical laboratories, diagnostic clinics, ambulatory surgical centers, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, and the like. Mr. Anderson provides counseling on such matters as federal and state regulation, reimbursement, fraud and abuse issues, organization finances, internal governance/structure issues, medical staff matters, resource contracting, and research-related concerns such as patient rights issues, research protocols, and grant proposal development. Mr. Anderson is a member of the Fraud and Abuse, Self- Referrals, and False Claims Committee; the Physician Organizations Committee; and the Long Term Care Substantive Law Committee, all through the American Health Lawyers Association. Additionally, Mr. Anderson sits on the Health Care Contracting Committee and the Procurement Fraud Committee, both through the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Section of Public Contract Law, as well as the Health Law Litigation Committee of the ABA’s Section of Litigation, and the ABA’s Health Law Section. Mr. Anderson is a frequent speaker and author on a variety of health care topics and has written several books on health care related compliance issues. He also authors a monthly legal update column for the magazine Assisted Living Today and regularly contributes to various other health care publications.
