Paediatric Endocrinology
Springer International Publishing (Verlag)
978-3-030-23708-0 (ISBN)
Pediatric Endocrinology covers all of the main aspects of translational endocrinology and clinical practice, making it an ideal resource for both paediatricians and endocrinologists. The book emphasizes the newer translational aspects of the topics covered, as well as molecular advances in diagnosis and therapy, although clinical relevance, with a particular focus on evidence-based clinical management, remains paramount. Further, transitions from childhood to adolescence and adulthood are discussed wherever appropriate.
Written by a combination of respected and emerging experts in the field, this book is intended to serve as a major reference work for pediatric endocrinologists at all stages of their careers, as well as general pediatricians with an interest in endocrinology and diabetes, and endocrinologists in adult practice who may also treat children and adolescents.
The book is part of the SpringerReference program, which provides access to 'living editions' thatare constantly updated using a dynamic peer-review publishing process.Mehul Dattani is a Professor of Pediatric Endocrinology based at the University College London (UCL), Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, and Head of Clinical Service in Endocrinology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH). He has an active clinical practice in pediatric and adolescent Endocrinology at GOSH and University College London Hospitals (UCLH). He recently completed a 3-year term as Chair of the British Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, and is current Chair of the Programme Organizing Committee and member of the Council of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE). He has recently been elected to serve as President of the European Society for Pediatric Endocrinology in 2020. He has also been appointed co-Chair of the Pituitary Main Thematic Group of the ENDO-ERN initiative. Professor Dattani has established a laboratory group investigating the molecular basis of hypothalamo-pituitary disease at UCL. He has identified novel genes implicated in hypothalamo-pituitary development in patients with congenital hypopituitarism, and more recently has worked on understanding the molecular basis of a paediatric brain tumour called adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma. He has authored more than 250 publications including original articles and scholarly reviews in a number of high-impact journals, as well as several book chapters. He sits on the advisory boards and editorial boards of numerous journals. He has co-authored 2 textbooks and is currently working on a further 2 books. Mohamad Maghnie is a Professor of Pediatrics and Head of the Pediatric Clinic, Clinical Service in Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the Giannina Gaslini Institute, University of Genoa, Italy. He previously served as a Director of the Pediatric Residency Program at the University of Genoa, Italy (2008-2014), and as President of the Italian Society for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology (ISPED, 2011-2015). He was also Chair of the ESPE website (2004-2008), a co-author of the Yearbook of Pediatric Endocrinology (2004-2009), and a member of the ESPE Summer School Steering Committee (2010-2013). Professor Maghnie completed undergraduate degrees in Internal Medicine, Intensive Care, and Anaesthesiology before graduating with his MD from the University of Pavia, Italy, in 1983. He went on to gain a PhD in Pediatric Endocrinology from the same university in 1991. Professor Maghnie's major research interests include growth disorders and their treatment and the management of paediatric pituitary disorders. He was the Co-Chair of the Education & Training Working Group of COST action BM1105 on GnRH Deficiency: Elucidation of the neuroendocrine control of human reproduction. Further, he has authored more than 175 peer-reviewed papers.
