This book features four principles of the patient-centered approach that can be used by physicians in treating chronically-ill patients. By adhering to these four principles, physicians will be able to humanely treat chronically-ill patients with the care and attention that they need in order to encourage them to manage their symptoms in the best possible way.

Irene S. Switankowsky writes on medical ethics and ethics. She is the author of A New Paradigm for Informed Consent (University Press of America, 1998) and A Patient-Centered Approach for the Terminally-Ill (University Press of America, 2011). She has a book that is forthcoming entitled A Patient-Centered Approach to Geriatric Care.
