Dianne V. Jewell, PT, DPT, PhD, FAPTA received her Bachelor of Arts in history from Williams College, her Master of Science in physical therapy from Boston University, her Doctor of Philosophy in health services organization and research from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and her transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy from VCU. She practiced in both inpatient and outpatient settings for over 25 years and was board certified in cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy for 20 years.Dr. Jewell is President and CEO of Sheltering Arms Corporation and Hospitals, a physical rehabilitation hospital system providing inpatient and outpatient services in central Virginia. She wasthe founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Rehab Intelligence Network, a consulting company providing project and data management to individuals and organizations dedicated to physical rehabilitation. She previously held a full-time appointment as assistant professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at VCU for 11 years where she was responsible for the evidence-based practice curricular content. She also has served as an adjunct faculty member in the Departments of Physical Therapy at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (Memphis, TN), the University of Vermont (Burlington, VT), and Mary Baldwin University (Fishersville, VA).Dr. Jewell has authored several peer-reviewed articles. Her research interests include physical therapy practice variation, quality and outcomes of physical therapy patient management, and early mobility interventions for patients in critical care. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Sheltering Arms Institute (Richmond, VA) and previously served two terms on the Board of Directors of the American Physical Therapy Association (Alexandria, VA).
