Dr. Paul E. Sax is Clinical Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), where he holds the Bruce A. Beal and Robert L. Beal Distinguished Chair in Infectious Diseases, and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Sax received his MD from Harvard Medical School, completed his residency in Internal Medicine at BWH, then fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is Editor-in-Chief of Open Forum Infectious Diseases, is Section Editor of HIV/AIDS in UpToDate, on the Editorial Board of NEJM Journal Watch Infectious Diseases (where he writes the HIV and ID Observations blog), and on the editorial advisory board of Medscape HIV/AIDS. Dr. Sax is the Associate Program Director for the Mass General Brigham fellowship in Infectious Diseases, is on the core faculty of the International Antiviral Society – USA, and teaches regularly on HIV and infectious diseases locally, nationally, and internationally. In addition to his clinical practice and teaching, Dr. Sax’s ongoing areas of research include clinical trials of antiretroviral therapies, cost-effectiveness of management strategies for HIV, and toxicity of antiretroviral therapy. He is presently the principal investigator at the BWH AIDS Clinical Trials Unit, and is a member of the Cost Effectiveness of Preventing AIDS Complications (CEPAC) Research Group. Daniel R. Kuritzkes, MD, received his BS and MS degrees in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University in 1978, and his MD from Harvard Medical School in 1983. He completed his clinical and research training in internal medicine and infectious disease at Massachusetts General Hospital, and was a visiting scientist at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research before joining the faculty at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1990. Dr. Kuritzkes returned to Harvard Medical School in 2002, where he is currently Professor of Medicine and Director of AIDS Research, Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Dr. Kuritzkes has written widely on antiretroviral therapy and on the problem of drug resistance in HIV-1 infection. He currently serves as Principal Investigator and Chair of the AIDS Clinical Trials Group Executive Committee. Dr. Kuritzkes also is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Infectious Diseases. His research interests focus on antiretroviral therapy and drug resistance.
