Martha DePecol Sanner is excited about the future of multimedia in education, instructional technology, and distance learning. Her interests include: Development of worksheets which facilitate the use of anatomy and physiology CD-ROMs into the curriculum. She has authored a workbook for the A.D.A.M. & Benjamin Cummings Interactive Physiology Modules, a Lab Manual for A.D.A.M. Interactive Anatomy, and Eroschenko's Histology. The use of graphics programs and clip art to develop a customized anatomy coloring book and the workbooks described above. The use of multimedia as both a presentation tool and a laboratory instructional tool. Development and review of instructional software products. Professor Sanner has given several dozen multimedia presentations in the last three years to educators, consumers, and legislators. Her seminars have focused on the use of technology in instruction and review of available software products all in the context of a "multimedia tour through the human body". She is an active member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and is co-chair of the HAPS Technology Committee. She has 19 years experience teaching biology and chemistry to allied health students. She has a BS degree in chemistry from Johnson State College (Vermont), a MS degree in Nutritional Biochemistry from Cornell, and doctoral course work in Biochemistry from Albany Medical College. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Middlesex Community-Technical College in Middletown, Connecticut.

FLUIDS, ELECTROLYTES, AND ACID/BASE BALANCE. Topic 1: Introduction to Body Fluids. Describes the roles and movements of fluids in the body, the composition of body fluids, the three fluid compartments, the roles and compartmentalization of electrolytes, and osmosis. Topic 2: Water Homeostasis. Shows how water enters and leaves the body, and what happens when water homeostasis is disturbed. Describes the mechanisms of water balance and how they work to maintain water homeostasis. Topic 3: Electrolyte Homeostasis. Compares the exchange of water and electrolytes between each of the fluid compartments, and discusses edema. Shows how the body regulates sodium, potassium, and calcium homeostasis. Topic 4: Acid/Base Homeostasis. Reviews principles of acids, bases, pH, and dynamic equilibrium. Describes how the body regulates pH through respiratory and renal controls. Shows respiratory and renal acidosis and alkalosis, with clinical examples.
