The new edition offers updated chapters alongside four brand new chapters that are based on recent research carried out by the authors, including topics on machine learning techniques, target localisation using a network of 2D ground radar, thermal imaging sensors for multi-target angle only tracking, and multisensor data fusion for single platform and team platforms. This book also covers major mathematical expressions, formulae and equations and, where feasible, their derivations. It discusses signed distance function concepts, DF models and architectures, aspects and methods of type 1 and 2 fuzzy logics, and related practical applications. In addition, the authors cover soft computing paradigms that are finding increasing applications in multisensory DF approaches and applications.
This text is geared toward researchers, scientists, teachers and practicing engineers interested and working in the multisensor data fusion area.
Jitendra R. Raol had received B. E. and M. E. degrees in electrical engineering from M. S. University (MSU) of Baroda, Vadodara, in 1971 and 1973 respectively and Ph.D. (electrical & computer engineering) from McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada, in 1986, and at both the places he was also a post graduate research and teaching assistant. He had joined the National Aeronautical Laboratory (NAL, Bangalore) in 1975. At CSIR-NAL he was involved in the activities on human pilot modeling in fix- and motion-based research flight simulators. He re-joined NAL in 1986 and retired in July 2007 as Scientist-G (and Head, flight mechanics and control division at CSIR-NAL). His main research interests have been and are data fusion, system identification, state/parameter estimation, flight mechanics-flight data analysis, H-infinity filtering, nonlinear filtering, artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic systems, genetic algorithms, and soft technologies for robotics. S Sethu Selvi, Professor, Department of E & C, Ramaiah Institute of Technology obtained her Ph. D. from Indian Institute of Science in 2001 under Prof. Anamitra Makur in image compression. She completed her B. E from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai in 1992 and M. E from Anna University in 1994. She joined as a faculty of Department of Electronics and Communication at Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore, in 2002 as Assistant Professor. She was promoted to Professor cadre in 2007 and also was the Head of the Department from 2008 – 2021. Her fields of interests are digital image processing, machine/deep learning, video processing, character recognition and biometrics. She can be contacted at email: selvi@msrit.edu. Dr Sudesh Kumar Kashyap is presently working as a Chief scientist & Group Head of System Identification and Data Fusion group at Flight mechanics and control division of CSIR-NAL, Bangalore. He has done his BE in Electronics, ME in Electrical and PhD in Electrical & Electronics. He was key member of various projects sponsored by different DRDO labs for the design, development and evaluation of advanced algorithms for Multisensor Multitarget tracking and fusion for Air defence applications such as Real Time Flight Safety Expert System (RTFLEX) and RF Seekers based tracking of homing target. His core expertise is in the area of Kalman filtering, Multisensor data fusion, gating and data association and tracking of targets with evasive maneuvers. He has also contributed to develop a concept proving Fuzzy-Bayesian based expert system to assist the pilot by providing enhanced situational awareness and threat levels in Beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air combat scenarios. Sanketh Ailneni was born in Nizamabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. After completing his preuniversity degree requirements at the Alphores Junior College, Karimnagar in 2005, he began his undergraduate studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad. He received his degree of Bachelors in Technology in June 2009 from the department of aeronautical engineering. He has received his degree of Masters in Technology in June 2012 from Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Bangalore. He is specialized in the area of estimation theory and its application to inertial navigation using MEMS sensors. Thereafter in December 2012, he started his professional work as Scientist with Flight Mechanics & Controls Division (FMCD) at CSIR - NAL.
