Web App Development: A Computer Science Approach provides students with insight into how web applications are created and how they act as the glue that holds many of our devices and computers together. A variety of computer science and software engineering concepts are covered within the context of web application development with Ruby on Rails serving as a consistent example throughout the text.
The book weaves computer science concepts into the creation of web applications with an emphasis on using the minimum amount of commands and code required to demonstrate any given concept. Students learn how to quickly create a running application and receive insight into how it can be enhanced using other web technologies. The text covers the basics of the web, Ruby for Rails, various models, views, and controllers, and security considerations. A helpful appendix walks students through the process of installing a development and deployment environment.
Web App Development is ideal for students pursuing computing degrees who have completed at least two classes in a programming language. The material is an excellent fit for single-quarter or -semester courses.
