The Mathematics of Ciphers

This book is more concerned with mathematics than with cryptography. It emphasizes the algorithmic aspects along with complete mathematical proofs of the algorithms. The book grew out of lecture notes aimed at first-year students of computer science.

It covers many of the familiar topics of elementary number theory, all with an algorithmic twist. The text also includes many interesting historical notes.
