A collection of papers covering current issues in ice technology that includes the following topics: ship and offshore computational fluid dynamics, propulsion, hydrodynamics, marine vehicles design and manufacture, stability, manoeuvrability, damage tolerance, and ice navigation.
This work is divided into two parts. The first section covers ship hydrodynamics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), ship design, ship and offshore structures, ship motions, manoeuvring and control, ship simulation, and ship propulsion. A bridging section on vessels and structures in ice leads to the second part which is devoted to ice technology. This part covers ice properties and modelling, as well as ice and ocean interaction.

Part 1: Computer system for calculation of flow, resistance and propulsion of a ship at the design stage; optimization of ship hydrodynamic design, viscous flow visualization around cylinders of arbitrary shape by a vortex method; the effect of Transom on the wave resistance of a ship; the improvement of ship mechanical equipment maintainability through design; anti-seismic design methodologies applied to offshore structures; load prediction due to green water on deck mounted equipment for floating bodies; application of multicriteria programming techniques to sandwich beam design; tow and turning manoeuvring characteristics of a fishing vessel; risk assessment of ship/platform collision; numerical simulation of sloshing in tanks; mathematical simulation of ship manoeuvres in unbounded and restricted seas; design method for propeller/propulsors on axisymmetric bodies; developments in modelling ship rudder-propeller interaction. Part 2: the effect of ice covering aquatorium free surface on underkeel clearance for a vessel going in shallow water; pressure-area curve dependence on contact condition between ice sheet and structure; compressive strength and structure of sea ice in the Weddell Sea, Antarctica; modelling of strength anisotropy for sea ice under 3-D loading conditions - third order solution wave motion under ice sheet; ice control using a newly developed ice boom.
