The overall goal of this book is to introduce the concept of mitochondrial receptor biology. Since 1913, there have been over 150,000 scholarly articles published (PubMed) on mitochondria, of which nearly 21,000 were published since 2010. This resurgence in interest stems, in no small part, to the identification of mitochondria as key players in cell death pathways. While numerous mitochondrial pathways that control cellular energy production and death have been identified, our understanding of the mechanisms by which they are regulated remains incomplete. Very recently, there have been a handful of papers demonstrating the localization of previously well-known mitochondrial and nuclear receptors on mitochondria. This book will be the first compilation of essays each describing the studies that established the localization of each receptor. Additionally each chapter will describe how a given receptor affects mitochondrial function and so the book will be divided into following three sections:1. Calcium regulation: 2: Bioenergetic Regulation and 3. Cell Metabolism and Survival.
