Second of two collections of Dickens classics
A Tale of Two Cities is considered by many to be Dickens's most thrilling novel. Whilst contrasting the tranquility of London with revolution-torn Paris; incident follows incident as Sydney Carton, a lawyer and wastrel, finally redeems himself and makes up for a misspent youth. Films of the novel were made in 1935 and 1958 starring Ronald Colman and Dirk Bogarde respectively.

A Christmas Carol is the most famous Christmas story ever written. Its central character, Ebeneezer Scrooge, is the meanest, most miserly and miserable person in the whole world. Yet he is surrounded by other characters who bubble over with life and warmth including Bob Cratchit and the various 'ghosts of Christmas' who come to visit Scrooge. A number of films and animations have been made of this true Christmas classic.

Nicholas Nickleby is at once a moving and funny novel following the fortunes and misfortunes of an impetuous and high-spirited hero. Left penniless by his father's death, and protector of his sister Kate, Nicholas Nickleby becomes a true champion of the weak. Always equal to the wild adventures thrust upon him, young Nicholas constantly has to pit himself against Ralph, his devious and unscrupulous uncle, in order to survive.

Charles Dickens (1812-70) was one of the leading novelists of the Victoria era, and in the entire history of English literature. The British author was famed for his humorous characters and dark, urban, social detail. These three wonderful literary works are read by the internationally acclaimed actor and reader Martin Jarvis.
