Thank God It’s Monday (?) is a collection of humorous essays on topics related to living out one’s faith in the workplace.
The author shares his experiences in trying to reflect the power of a gracious and generous God in the work setting, while navigating the competition and self-promotion of the office. Not to give away the ending, but the author mostly chronicles how he has failed to effectively navigate these differences but continues his faith journey to do better.
These essays serve to educate, encourage, inspire, and entertain readers who face work struggles ranging from dealing with co-workers to surviving business meetings, from sharing the good news with colleagues to responding well to a challenging boss. They are meant to be an encouragement to working wounded Christians who may feel guilty they don’t do more to share their faith at work, or who find themselves acting at work in ways that don’t align with their Christian beliefs. The core message contained within is to help people recognize the challenge, find the humor when they fall short, and always return to Jesus who has the power and passion to help them triumph in their faith and their work.

Tom Petersen has struggled to balance his work and faith ever since he caught himself drinking most of the product of his own lemonade stand at the age of seven. He hasn’t seen much improvement over his years of work as a daily newspaper journalist, political campaign press secretary, agency public relations representative, and utility communicator. Currently based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Tom has found the humor in the struggle and grown in his faith in the process, even if the results aren’t evident.
