Rastatt Favorite Palace is the oldest German “porcelain palace” and practically the only one that has been preserved in a nearly unchanged condition. The palace, which was richly furnished with fashionable furniture, lacquers, lapidary art, and precious textiles in the first decades of the 18th century, displays the extraordinary artistic sense of its builder, the widowed Margravine Sibylla Augusta von Baden-Baden. The significant ceramics and glass collections of the margravine and her son can be admired when touring Rastatt Favorite Palace to this today. The highlights of the collections include early Meissen porcelain and Strasbourg glazed earthenware in the shape of vegetables and animals. The former Baroque palace garden is now an idyllic landscape garden. The margravine’s retreat, the mystical hermitage, is also well worth a visit.
