Bildung – alles, was man wissen muss?
Education and competence are central themes in both philosophy and psychology. In both one is concerned with understanding human life and understanding how we understand. Yet understanding is impossible without education, both on a personal, a social and a cultural level. Education comprises not only what we learn in life; rather, it reflects a process during which skills are developed and extended through the practical task of solving problems based on models available to us. From our experiences of resistance while struggling with this task we develop both dynamic relationships with the world and our own identity. In this volume the philosopher Christoph Hubig and the psychologist Heiner Rindermann work through the humanistic, social and individual prerequisites, characteristics and results of education and competence.

We learn not for school but for life. This dialog between philosophy and psychology shows that there is more than a grain of truth in that old saying.>
