From across a range of precarious and relatively secure positions, authors consider the changing politics of queer theory and the shifting practices of queers who, in moving from the margins toward the academic mainstream, differently negotiate resources, recognition, and returns. Churnjeet Mahn is Professor of English at the University of Strathclyde and a fellow of the Young Academy of Scotland (Royal Society of Edinburgh). Her publications include Journeys in the palimpsest: British women’s Travel in Greece 1840–1914 (2012) and the edited collection Creativity and Resistance in a Hostile World (2020). Matt Brim is Professor of Queer Studies at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York. His books include Poor Queer Studies: Confronting Elitism in the University (2020), James Baldwin and the Queer Imagination (2014), and the coedited Imagining Queer Methods (2019). Yvette Taylor is Professor of Education, University of Strathclyde, and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. Books include Working-class Lesbian Life (2007), Making Space for Queer Identifying Religious Youth (2015), and the co-authored Feminist Repetitions in Higher Education: Interrupting Career Categories (2020).
