The recent rehabilitation of metaphysics as a sub-discipline of philosophy opened new horizons in the study of Spinoza in the Anglo-American world. Over the past two decades, this state of affairs has changed dramatically, and as of today the study of metaphysical monism is pursued in some of the most prestigious journals of analytic philosophy. It is thus not at all a surprise that interest in Spinoza's philosophy has surged exponentially over these same two decades. Being one of the great metaphysicians of all times, and, arguably, the most influential metaphysician of modern times, the concurrence of these parallel developments is just what was to be expected. Editor Yitzhak Melamed proposes to take on these developments in a new research collection which will provide panoramic view of the state of Spinoza studies in the Anglo-American world, as well as in Europe, and will foster further cross-fertilization between these two philosophical cultures in a way that is fruitful, timely, and welcome. Relying on a diverse international team of outstanding, established and up-and-coming Spinoza scholars, the volume will strive to provide an up-to-date overview of the current state of research, as well as break new ground on subjects which have barely been studied so far through a mix of fresh themes and classic topics.

Yitzhak Y. Melamed is the Charlotte Bloomberg Professor of Philosophy at Johns Hopkins University, USA. He works at the intersection of philosophy, Jewish and religious studies, the history of science, and issues in contemporary metaphysics. He has been awarded the ACLS-Burkhardt, NEH, Fulbright, and Mellon Fellowships. He is the author of Spinoza's Metaphysics: Substance and Thought, and a large number of studies on early modern philosophy, medieval philosophy, and German idealism.
