Felicity Cox is Associate Professor in the Centre for Language Sciences in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University, Sydney. She has thirty years' experience in teaching and research in phonetics and phonology and is regarded as one of the foremost authorities on the Australian English accent. She has published extensively on Australian English with a particular focus on its history, evolution and variation. Her main research interests include the phonetic analysis of sound change, the acquisition of phonology, and sociophonetics. A/Prof Cox is a member of the International Phonetic Association, the Australian Speech Science and Technology Association and the Australian Linguistic Society. Janet Fletcher is Professor of Phonetics in the School of Languages and Linguistics, University of Melbourne. She has held previous appointments at the University of Edinburgh, the Ohio State University, and Macquarie University, Sydney. Her research interests include phonetic theory, laboratory phonology, prosodic phonology, articulatory and acoustic modelling of prosodic effects in various languages. She is currently working on phonetic variation, and prosody, and intonation in Indigenous Australian languages. She is a member of the Research Unit for Indigenous Language in the School of Languages and Linguistics and is a Chief Investigator in the University of Melbourne node of the Centre of Excellence 'Dynamics of Language'.
