The focus is on practical tips, rather than the theoretical aspects of the procedures. Samir A. Melki, MD, PhD Samir A. Melki, MD, PhD, completed his ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University Hospital, Georgetown, DC, where he was elected chief resident. This was followed by a fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston, Massachusetts, where he served as chief fellow. Dr. Melki is currently a clinical instructor in ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. He is a director of the Boston Cornea Center at Schepens Eye Associates and chief surgeon at the Boston Laser Eye Institute. His areas of interest include ocular surface reconstruction, keratoprosthesis, dry eye diseases, and management of difficult refractive surgical cases. Dimitri T. Azar, MD Dimitri T. Azar, MD, completed his residency, chief residency, and fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He then became director of the refractive surgery service at the Wilmer Eye Institute (Johns Hopkins University, 1991 to 1996), Baltimore, Maryland. He then joined the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary as director of the corneal and refractive surgery services and associate chief of ophthalmology. He is an associate professor of ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. His research interests include refractive surgery, corneal wound healing, and corneal angiogenesis.
