This four-video series provides everything the viewer needs to master the complete basic mental status examination! Based on a clinic interview with an adult patient concerned about memory loss, the videos are divided into an organized format, demonstrating every aspect of a successful assessment. The first video, Conducting the Patient Interview, presents the patient, the student and the interviewer and follows their progress through the various stages of the basic mental status exam. The three succeeding videos each focus on specific segments of the exam, using flashbacks from the first program to teach, discuss and explain the purpose of each step, and the interview and assessment techniques that are employed in the process.Video II, Evaluating Aspects of Appearance and Mood, describes normal and abnormal findings, and demonstrates assessment and analysis. Video III, Evaluating Language and Thought Patterns, teaches evaluation of speech and language, the thought process, thought content, and perception. Video IV, Evaluating Intellectual and Cognitive Function, evaluates intellectual functioning, cognition, insight and judgment.
