"Practical Canine Reproduction and Pediatrics" provides a much needed integrative approach to preventive medicine and therapeutics for young dogs. For each of five critical developmental transitions, the author examines the events and interactions that most profoundly influence neonatal and pediatric health. The book is organised into sections covering each of these critical developmental milestones: organogenesis; parturition; the 0-3 day neonatal period; the 21-28 day maturation; and weaning. The emphasis is on a description of risk factors, and discussion of consequences and of avoidance to reduce morbidity and mortality. Additional sections address other important areas of paediatrics: wasting syndromes; post-mortem evaluation of young dogs; environmental considerations; and pediatric implications for post-adolescence. Each section is written so that it can be read independently, which facilitates access for rapid reference.
