Beginning with review chapters on combinational and sequential circuits, this book goes on to describe combinational design using RT blocks, memory design and hardware-software codesign issues. It covers the basic principles of digital system design, and demonstrates the use of VHDL and FPGAs in system design, and discusses underlying algorithms.
Digital System Design attempts to provide a comprehensive textbook on digital design for undergraduate students of engineering. The book exhaustively covers the basic principles of digital system design as well as demonstrates the use of VHDL and FPGAs in system design and also discusses the underlying algorithms. beginning with review chapters on combinational and sequential circuits, the book goes on to describe combinational design using RT blocks, memory design and hardware-software codesign issues. Since memory organisation forms a core part of the system design challenges, this issue is illustrated comprehensively with examples. The theory is supported with several case studies to help students undertake design projects. Written in a lucid style the book would also benefit postgraduate students and designers in the industry.

Dr. M. Balakrishnan obtained his B. Tech. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani and subsequently obtained his Ph D from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. Currently Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Deli, he ahs been actively involved in teaching and research both in India and abroad. He ahs played a pinoeering role in modernizing curriclum related to digital design, introducing FPGAs in the laboratory as well as introducing both theoretical as well as project-oriented systems-level design courses at IIT Delhi. He has guided a number of students for their theses and has a larg number of publications to his credit.
