Kenneth Storm is currently an independent consultant for a US-based construction company, preparing construction estimates on a variety of projects such as power plants, oil refineries, petroleum industry tank farms, and compressors stations ranging in price from $500,000 to over $250 million in scope. Accumulating over 35 years of experience, he worked as a major project engineer and piping engineer for a variety of major companies. He graduated with a BS in mathematics and statistics from California State University, Chico. He is licensed and certified as a California General Engineering Contractor and a member of the American Mathematical Association.
The second edition of Industrial Piping and Equipment Estimating Manual 2e delivers a comprehensive overview of information that engineers, estimators and managers need to develop estimates and create bids. Packed with worksheets covering combined and simple cycle power plants, refineries, compressor stations, ethanol, hydrogen and biomass plants, this reference helps construction engineers and estimators create bids where scope and quantity differences can be identified and project impacts estimated. This updated manual provides a comprehensive, accurate method for compiling piping and equipment man-hour estimates for industrial process plants including Solar, Geothermal and Biomass Energy. Beginning with an introduction devoted to labor, productivity measurement, estimating methods, and factors affecting construction labor productivity and impacts of overtime, the author then explores equipment through hands-on estimation tables, including sample estimates and statistical applications. Each section contains scopes of work and covers craft labor for the assembly and field erection to put equipment into operation in a process unit. Each section can be used to estimate man-hours to install a specific process plant. The book rounds out with a glossary, abbreviations list, formulas, and metric/standard conversions. This comprehensive, current manual details scopes of work based on process and increased safety in field erection. Estimating methods and statistical applications reduce errors for estimators to produce accurate estimates, making it an ideal go-to reference for estimators, engineers and managers with a level of detail and equipment breakdown necessary for today's complex industrial operations. - Use estimating methods, scopes of work, man-hour data tables and estimate sheets to produce direct craft man-hour estimates, RFPs and field change orders- Scopes of work and man-hour data tables are applicable for any complexity of design, bid and contract- Identify quantity differences using the comparison method to eliminate impacts between proposed and previously installed equipment- Process plants in this edition represent a broad mix of energy sources, including: Combined and Simple Cycle Power Plants, Refineries, Hydrogen Plants, Biomass, Ethanol, and Geothermal Power Plants, Compressor Stations and Wastewater Treatment Plants- Each section for a process plant includes: introduction to piping and equipment, equipment general notes, description of process plant, piping schedules, equipment scopes of work, equipment estimate man-hour tables and estimate sheets, equipment installation man-hour breakdown, balance of plant equipment (pumps, tanks, exchangers, etc.), and section man-hour breakdowns to support thorough, accurate calculations
