Polymeric Materials for Biomedical Implants
Woodhead Publishing (Verlag)
978-0-323-99690-7 (ISBN)
The book's chapters cover vital topics for the development of polymeric biomedical implants, including biomaterial-tissue interactions, mechanical and surface property requirements for different implants, as well as market and ethical issues. This will be a useful reference for academics and researchers working in materials science, biomedical engineering, regenerative medicine and pharmacology, as well as R&D groups developing biomedical implants.
Sabu Thomas is a Professor and Director of the International and Interuniversity Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India. Professor Thomas is internationally recognized for his contributions to polymer science and engineering, with his research interests encompassing polymer nanocomposites, elastomers, polymer blends, interpenetrating polymer networks, polymer membranes, green composites, nanocomposites, nanomedicine, and green nanotechnology. His groundbreaking inventions in polymer nanocomposites, polymer blends, green bionanotechnology, and nano-biomedical sciences have significantly advanced the development of new materials for the automotive, space, housing, and biomedical fields. Abhimanyu Tharayil completed his Ph. D from IIT Kanpur, India in the field of medical implants. Prior to his doctoral studies he worked on electrospinning of polymers in his Master’s. He has published research articles, review articles in peer reviewed journals and book chapters with reputed publishers. He has given invited lectures in the field of biomaterials and has conducted and attended conferences in that field. He is also an independent and certified operator of SEM, XRD, DMA, Micro injection molding, UTM, Electrospinning apparatus etc. He has served as the student president of Indian Institute of metals, Kanpur chapter during his doctoral studies. Presently, he is working as a researcher with Dr Sabu Thomas. His specialized areas of research are biomaterials for medical implants, polymer synthesis, polymer nanocomposites and electrospinning.
