Chinese methods of studying karst differ somewhat from those in the West and these are discussed, analzyed and evaluated in this text. Limestone areas are sensitive to environmental influences and Chinese attempts to deal with these are discussed and illustrated with reference to other areas.
The karst (limestone) regions of China which is the largest contiguous area in the world, are studied from the viewpoint of a Western geomorphologist. Chinese methods of studying karst differ somewhat from those in the West and these are discussed, analzyed and evaluated. Karst areas are sensitive to environmental influences and Chinese attempts to deal with these are discussed and illustrated by diagrams from Chinese sources and the author's own photographs. Comparisons between karst areas in Europe and elsewhere are made with those in China to complete the study. This text may interest geomorphologists, hydrologists and engineering geologists.
