e-Health Systems: Theory, Advances and Technical Applications offers a global vision of all the parties involved with e-health system deployment and its operation process, presenting the state of the art in major trends for improving healthcare quality and efficiency of healthcare management.

The authors focus on ICT technologies and solutions for health management and healthcare applications, specifically emerging ICT to help reduce costs and improve healthcare quality, and healthcare trends in consumer empowerment and information-rich "Smart Care", with ubiquitous care access from anywhere, at any time, by any authorized person(s) when needed.

Split into two parts, this book provides a comprehensive introduction to the concepts of e-health and delves into the processes carried out to store information, as well as the standards that are used; the authors explore applications and implementation of e-health systems, explaining in depth the types of wireless networks and security protocols employed to convert these systems into robust solutions avoiding any kind of data corruption and vulnerabilities.

Joel J.P.C. Rodrigues is a professor in the Department of Informatics of the University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal, and senior researcher at the Instituto de Telecomunicações, Portugal. He received the Academic Title of Aggregated Professor from the University of Beira Interior, the Habilitation in computer science and engineering from the University of Haute Alsace, France, a PhD degree in informatics engineering, an MSc degree from the University of Beira Interior, and a BSc degree in informatics engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal. His main research interests include e-health, sensor networks, IoT, vehicular delay-tolerant networks, and mobile and ubiquitous computing. He is the leader of NetGNA Research Group, the President of the scientific council at ParkUrbis – Covilhã Science and Technology Park, the Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Technical Committee on eHealth, Member Representative of the IEEE Communications Society on the IEEE Biometrics Council, and officer of the IEEE 1907.1 standard. Sandra Sendra Compte received her degree of Technical Engineering in Telecommunications in 2007. She received her M.Sc. of Electronic Systems Engineering in 2009 and her Ph.D. in electronic engineering (Dr. Ing.) in 2013. Currently she is working as a researcher for "Communications and Netwoks" at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. She is editor-in-chief of the international journal "WSEAS Transaction on Communications" since 2012. Her research interests include saving energy techniques in electronic circuits, sensor deployment, health systems for patient monitoring, WSN, UWSN and the application of these technologies for environmental monitoring. Isabel de la Torre Díez received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in telecommunication engineering from the University of Valladolid, Spain, in 2003 and 2010, respectively. Currently, she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Signal Theory, Communications and Telematics Engineering at the University of Valladolid, Spain. Her teaching and research interests includes development of Telemedicine applications, e-health, m-health, EHRs (Electronic Health Records), EHR standards, biosensors, and e-services. She is leader of GTe Research Group and a member of the research group SI (Information Society), GIR (Recognized Research Group) of the Engineering and Technology Area of the University of Valladolid.
