Minimally invasive techniques in urology have a long history. Early on, attempts were made to minimize surgical trauma without compromising therapeutic goals. Achievements in transurethral procedures, percutaneous renal surgery or extracorporeal shock-wave therapy are examples of minimally invasive methods.
