While AIDS associations are firmly rooted in the health sector in Cameroon, the emergence of the diabetes association movement is a new phenomenon in the socio-political universe of the country. This emergence, which has occurred in parallel with the ongoing democratization process and the epidemiological evolution of this pathology in Africa, bears witness to the scarcity of literature and evidence that would make it possible to understand the mechanisms underlying the functioning of associations in this sector. This research proposes to understand the role played by the Cameroonian Association of Diabetics and Hypertensives (ACADIAH) in the fight against diabetes based on its functioning and actions. An ethnographic survey was conducted within this association and the data collected describe the positioning strategies of the actors and allow for an account of the forms of subjectivation at work in this sector.

A graduate of the University of Bordeaux in France, Simon Minkeng is a health anthropologist and independent consultant in social development and international solidarity.
