EU-Malaysian relations are all too often seen through the lens of economics and trade. Although this is legitimate, an extension of cooperation could also open up new avenues of collaboration and understanding between Europe and Asia. This volume brings together manifold perspectives on economics, finance, trade, education, history, culture, gender, human rights, and multiculturalism - issues which are currently gaining in importance.

Dr Christoph Marcinkowski, award-winning German scholar in International Security, Southeast Asian and Islamic Studies, is Principal Research Fellow at IAIS Malaysia, an international policy think-tank based in Kuala Lumpur. Also available in this series are his The Islamic World and the West (vol. 24) and Shi'ite Identities (vol. 27), with another volume on the Malaysian State of Penang forthcoming. Dr Constance Chevallier-Govers is Associate Professor of Law at the University of Grenoble. Among her previous publications is Shari'ah and Legal Pluralism in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur: IAIS, 2010). Ruhanas Harun is Associate Professor at the Centre for Defence and International Security, National Defence University of Malaysia. She is the editor of Malaysia's Foreign Relations (Kuala Lumpur: University of Malaya, 2006).
