This book provides an in-depth analysis of current issues and approaches related to the teaching of English composition to students in and/or from Pacific Rim countries. The papers address both political and pedagogical issues. By considering questions of Western academic discourse and the political and pedagogical consequences of promoting such a discourse, the book reflects current concerns about the imposition of Western rhetorical patterns in non-Western contexts. It also documents the use of state-of-the-art pedagogical approaches—namely peer feedback, content-based and process approaches—in Pacific Rim contexts. The book is aimed at composition teachers, researchers and teacher trainees interested in the teaching of English composition around the Pacific Rim.
