Perhaps the most famous aircraft in the imperial fleet were the flying boats which in the late 1930s seemed to promise a new and fabuluous way of travel. Their life was glorious, but sadly short during World War II. By the end of the war they were almost extinct. That is apart from the remoter parts of the world where some of them still survive. The author found such a survivor, an old catalina run by a young pilot who regularly files down the west of Africa for fun and profit. He was commissioned by the BBC to front their new adventureres series to take part in such a flying expedition on the flying boat and from their experiences come this book.
