Michael was intelligent, strong, a hardworking family man married fifty-four years to his love.

Later, after Michael’s beloved wife passed, John moved his dad to an apartment in his town with the plan of becoming his caregiver, the one who could hold his hand through his journey into dementia.

One Man’s Battle, a memoir of caretaking, is a brutally honest telling of a unique story about a true warrior and veteran, the author’s father, best man, and best friend forever. Learn about the challenges of caregiving and assisted living, and the many struggles that will happen along the way. Most importantly, gain knowledge of how to keep your strength and wit, and how to accept pain and suffering, while working within systems that are far from perfect.

John Guarino, a street-smart kid from Queens, New York, and a Boston College graduate, is a former institutional equity trader. John was fortunate to leave his job at The World Trade Center twice, once just before the 1993 garage bombing, and in May 2001 just prior to the 911 terrorist attacks. Several years ago, he moved his young family south for a better lifestyle and to support his parents. John’s father Michael was the best man at his wedding. Proudly, John gave back to Michael during his brutal fight with dementia.
