London Underground Time Line has taken three years to write and covers the history of transport in London from before the Underground was constructed, to the present day.
London Underground Time Line is the story of the London Underground network, from 1863 to the present day. The book charts the system as it evolved from the early cut and cover Metropolitan and Metropolitan & District Rlys, through to the early deep level tubes, such as the City & South London, Hampstead, Central London and Baker Street & Waterloo, which were cut through the London clay and are the backbone of the modern system. The book looks at the trains, infrastructure and operating systems that make up this famous and extensive transport network that is the envy of the world. The book takes the reader on a journey through time from the Victorian steam era, through to the system of today with its new S Stock and futuristic project for driverless trains, which are planned to enter service within the next decade. The book contains many old and often rare pictures and maps of the system at various periods of its development, which will fascinate and intrigue the reader.
