With a journey around Turkey and Egypt, this book examines the three monotheistic religions and how they emerged from the pagan past. It includes Judaism and Islam. It presents some of the stories and legends of the Moslem faith, many of which have roots in Judaism.
In Jill Dudley's second book "Holy Smoke!" she travels around Turkey and Egypt on a religious quest, examining the three monotheistic religions and how they emerged from the pagan past. Unlike her first book "Ye Gods!" in which she examines how Christianity emerged from the old Olympian gods of Greece, here she widens her field of vision to include Judaism and Islam too. For those who have little knowledge about Islam, it is an opportunity to read about some of the stories and legends of the Moslem faith, many of which have fascinating roots in Judaism. On all the trips Jill has been accompanied by Harry, her husband, who remains true to his Christian upbringing, taking Christianity on trust, whilst she searches for satisfactory answers to impossibly difficult questions. It is a light and entertaining read as well as being informative and thought-provoking.
