The number of areas of chemistry in which the application of simple group theoretical ideas is important for undergraduate and postgraduate students has increased over recent years. This book aims to cover the essential group theory with emphasis on the application of theory.
The number of areas of chemistry where the application of simple group theoretical ideas is important for undergraduate and post-graduate students has greatly increased over recent years. This book, written as part of the MacMillan Physical Science Series, covers the essential group theory encountered in under-graduate and postgraduate chemistry courses, with the emphasis throughout on the application of theory. The aim has been to include a wide range of examples without unnecessarily increasing the level of difficulty for the reader. Only a very modest mathematical background is needed to be able to use this book, although an elementary knowledge of quantum mechanics and bonding theory would be helpful.
