Examines recent results of the electron-proton collider HERA at DESY. Topics include: the search for leptoquarks and excited electrons; determination of the proton structure close to the confinement limit; and study of the resolved and direct nature of photon interactions and the photon structure.
This volume constitutes the proceedings of a workshop devoted to understanding the most recent results of the new electron-proton collider HERA at DESY. The highlights are the search for leptoquarks and excited electrons, determination of the proton structure close to the confinement limit, study of the resolved and direct nature of photon interactions and the photon structure, and discovery of large rapidity gap events believed to be induced by the most elusive and essential object of strong interactions — the Pomeron. In addition, the first measurements of charged current cross sections in this region are presented, leading the way to tests of the electroweak interactions.

The structure of the proton - where from and where to?, H. Abramowicz; perspectives on global QCD analysis, W.-K. Tung; low Q2 physics, results from H1 and ZEUS, R. Eichler; some theoretical problems in high energy scattering and diffractive processes in QCD, L. Lipatov; QCD coherence in space-like parton cascades and structure of DIS final states, Y. Dokshitzer; QCD effects in hadronic final states, G. Ingelman; spin structure functions for proton and deuteron from CERN SMC and combined analysis of world data, V. Hughes; spin structure function experiments at SLAC, C. Young; recent D0 results on QCD, G. Forden. (Part contents).
