This volume summarizes recent progress concerning various facets of the liaison between heat shock proteins (HSP) and immunity. It considers in depth both the central functions of HSP in the immmune response and their potent antigenicity.
Heat shock proteins are produced when a cell is stressed by various environmental insults. Their conservation in function and structure have few, if any, precedence in biology. This volume summarizes recent progress concerned with the role of heat shock proteins in immunology. Topics discussed include the chaperonin function of heat shock proteins, their role in immunoglobulin assembly and antigen processing, and their involvement in inflammation.
