Prof. Harald Ries received his MSc. in physics from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany, for his research at the Max-Plank Institute of high energy physics. He then continued his postgraduate work on thermodynamics of light and solar energy at Munich University, Germany, for which he received his PhD. in physics in1985. In 1999, Harald Ries founded OEC AG, Germany. Since January 2001 he also holds a position as associate professor in the physics department of the Philipps-University of Marburg, Germany, where he leads a research group on optics. Dr. Wolfgang Spirkl received his MSc. And PhD. in physics from the Ludwig-Maximians-University in Munich, Germany, for research in the physics of using solar energy. After a research year on the X ray topography of semiconductor dislocations, he worked as assistant professor on non-imaging optics for solar energy collection. In 1998 he joined Qimonda AG, Germany (former Siemens/Infineon AG) where he leads a group for electrical memory device verification, including the development of new verification algorithms.
