Blandy's Operative Urology

This is a step-by-step manual of instructions in the basic operations of urological surgery, especially designed to meet the needs of the surgeon in-training and the general surgeon interested in urology. It does not aim to be comprehensive (there are other books to serve this purpose), but rather to cover all the most important and frequently performed procedures to arm the newly qualified specialist with the standard tools of the trade. The book is essentially in an atlas format, with the large number of excellent line illustrations doing most of the work of explaining the procedures. These have also been supplemented with photographs where appropriate. The third edition has been completely rewritten to bring it up to date and to incorporate changes in operative techniques introduced in the last ten years. Since the second edition was published, urology has been revolutionised by the introduction of laparoscopic access techniques. This merits an entirely new chapter. There is also a new chapter on radical prostatectomy which has become increasingly popular despite the earlier controversies that beset it.
The heart of John Blandy's popular work will remain and his engaging style of writing will be largely preserved. However, the new chief editor is an experienced clinical urologist who has invited expert contributing authors from the USA and Europe for the first time. He is joined by Herb Lepor from NYU who will ensure that the book is also suitable for residents preparing for US boards.
