The aim of this book is to provide students and practitioners with a clinical text on the investigation and management of binocular vision anomalies by methods other than medicine and surgery. The aim has been to produce a "how-to-do-it" book, where theory has been kept to the minimum. The author has described the methods which he has has found effective and where possible, provided the references for practical evaluations. To aid the student, he has produced a mnemonic approach to the subject to aid learning and application in a clinical setting. Each condition has been defined, investigated, evaluated and treatment techniques offered. Under the heading of management, he has considered five non-medical possibilities: removing any general cause, correcting refractive error, orthoptics, relieving prisms and referral.

Part 1 Investigation: nature of binocular vision anomalies; binocular vision in routine examination. Part 2 Heterophoria: evaluation of heterophoria; management of heterophoria - basic principles; esophoric conditions; exophoric conditions; hyperphoria; orthoptic exercises for heterophoria; anisometropia and aniseikonia. Part 3 Squint: sensory changes in squint; amblyopia and eccentric fixation; suppression and abnormal retinal correspondence; microtropia; examination of young children; evaluation and management of squint. Part 4 Incomitant deviations: investigation of comitancy; nystagmus.
