Offering a clear, comprehensive presentation, HALF THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE, 8E delivers an authoritative analysis of classical and the most current research from a feminist psychology viewpoint. It thoroughly examines the balance of cultural and biological similarities--and differences--between the genders, noting how these characteristics may affect issues of equality as well as how men and women behave toward one another. It provides a strong foundation for understanding the influences of gender, race, and ethnicity on psychology and society, as well as strategies for thinking critically about pop culture versus academic feminism as it relates to psychology.

Janet Shibley Hyde, the Helen Thompson Woolley Professor of Psychology and Women's Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, received her education at Oberlin College and the University of California, Berkeley. She has taught a course in the psychology of women since 1973, first at Bowling Green State University, next at Denison University, and now at the University of Wisconsin. Her research interests include the psychology of women, human sexuality, and gender-role development. Author of the popular UNDERSTANDING HUMAN SEXUALITY, she is a past-president of the Society for the Psychology of Women and a fellow of the American Psychological Association. Her many honors include an award for excellence in teaching at Bowling Green State University, the Chancellor's Award for teaching at the University of Wisconsin, and the Heritage Award from the Society for the Psychology of Women for career contributions to research on the psychology of women.
