Ocular injuries and emergencies are discusssed, beginning with the lids and orbit, and then moving back to the retina and globe. Also included are first aid, managing in the absence of a physician, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Leslie Hargis-Greenshields, COMT Leslie is a 1984 graduate of the St. Paul Ramsey School for Ophthalmic Technicians. Over the past 15 years she has worked in university settings as well as private clinics. Each opportunity has provided a new exposure in diagnostics, teaching, research, and administration. Leslie has been very involved in teaching at both local and national levels. She is also a co-founder and partner of a consulting company, Ocular Training Concepts (OTC). This company provides training and educational opportunities in office settings and regional seminars for allied health personnel in the field of ophthalmology. Leslie is currently the Director of Clinical Operations at TLC Northwest Eye Clinic in Seattle. Linda Sims, COT Linda Sims obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Central Washington University in 1978. She was employed for many years as an optometric assistant/optician/office manager, which provided her with a solid knowledge base regarding eyeglasses, contact lenses, optics, and business operations. She joined the ophthalmic support staff of Group Health Cooperative in 1993, earning her certification at the assistant level and then at the technician level. She has been employed at Virginia Mason Medical Center since 1998. Linda has been active on the planning committees of the Washington Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeon's Assistant annual continuing education program for 1997 and 1998.
