David B. Granet, M.D., FACS, FAAP, FAAO is the Anne F. Ratner Professor of Ophthalmology & Pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego and is the Director of the UCSD/Abraham Ratner Children's Eye Center. The author of over 100 articles and book chapters, Dr. Granet is a graduate of the Yale University School of Medicine where he served as President of his class. He is the founder and director of the International Pediatric Ophthalmology Internet discussion group. He serves on the Executive Committee for the Section of Ophthalmology for the American Academy of Pediatrics and is the Chair-Elect. He is the co-editor of the new AAP text, "Challenging Cases in Pediatric Ophthalmology". In 2009, he co-founded the 1st World Congress for Paediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus that took place in Barcelona, Spain with about 1000 attendees from 90 countries - the largest meeting of pediatric ophthalmologists in history. The 2nd World Congress meeting will be held in Milan, Italy in September of 2012. Dr. Granet has received the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Senior Honor Award from the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. He has been voted into Top Doctors, every edition of Castle & Connely's Best Doctors of America and every edition of the US News and World report, Best Doctors in the US. In addition to his research, teaching and clinical practice, Dr. Granet hosts the Emmy award-winning medical television show "Health Matters". He resides in San Diego with his wife, Lisa, his three children, Elijah, Isaiah and Ezra along with their dog, Deli. Shira L. Robbins, M.D., FAAP, FAAO the co-editor of the new American Academy of Pediatrics text "Challenging Cases in Pediatric Ophthalmology", is an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology specializing in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Eye Re-Alignment at the University of California, San Diego/Ratner Children's Eye Center. Prior to entering medicine, she worked in molecular oncology research at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia. She received her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, followed by an internship year within the University of Pennsylvania hospital system and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus (eye misalignment) at the combined UCSD/Naval Medical Center program in San Diego. She is the Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology Education at the University of California San Diego and serves as a Fellowship Preceptor in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Dr. Robbins is an Awardee of the National Center of Leadership in Academic Medicine Program (NCLAM) and a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation Award for Third World Studies. She has been voted by her peers as one of the 'Best Doctors in America.' She has been a presenter at state, national and international research and teaching conferences. Her research has been published in top journals in her field. She has authored textbook chapters and written web based medical information pages. She lives with her husband and two daughters in San Diego, California.
