This book reveals to readers how to harness high-voltage power for everyday electronics. The authors detail the transformation of up to 400 V-from household outlets and electric vehicle batteries-into the low voltage required for devices like smart home systems and LED lights. This concise guide delves into the cutting-edge integration of DC-DC and AC-DC converters onto a single microchip using a high-voltage switched-capacitor approach. Explore expert insights on topology, circuit design, and layout techniques that are shaping the future of power management.
Tuur Van Daele was born in Leuven, Belgium, in 1995. He obtained the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium, in 2018. He received the PhD degree from the ESAT-MICAS research group at KU Leuven for his research on high-voltage fully integrated power management, in 2024. Currently, he works as an analog design engineer at ICsense, Leuven. Dr. Van Daele was the recipient of several awards, including the 2014 Best Student Award from the Faculty of Engineering Science at KU Leuven, the 2022 Golden Award in the Huawei Ph.D. Student Content, and the 2023-2024 SSCS Predoctoral Achievement Award.
Filip Tavernier (Senior Member, IEEE) received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. degree in engineering science from KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium, in 2005 and 2011, respectively. From 2011 to 2014, he was a Senior Fellow with the Microelectronics Group, European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva, Switzerland. From 2014 to 2015, he was a Post-Doctoral Researcher with the Department of Electrical Engineering ESAT-MICAS, KU Leuven, where he was an Assistant Professor from 2015 to 2020 and has been an Associate Professor since 2020. His main research interests include analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for high-performance data converters, dc-dc converters, optical receivers, and cryogenic circuits. Prof. Tavernier serves as the Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS) Webinar Program Chair, was a SSCS Distinguished Lecturer, and is a Treasurer of the SSCS Benelux Chapter. He is a member of the Technical Program Committee of the European Solid-State Circuits Conference (ESSCIRC) and the Custom Integrated Circuits Conference (CICC), and a member of the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) Student Research Preview Committee. He has served as a Guest editor for the IEEE SOLID-STATE CIRCUITS LETTERS and the IEEE JOURNAL OF SOLID-STATE CIRCUITS.
