This text supplements the main text in the introduction to computers course or can be used as the main text in an Internet course in any discipline, a training workshop, or the freshman orientation course. This very basic guide gets students started on the Internet: no previous experience is assumed. The text takes advantage of the Windows graphical user interface. Online resources created specifically for use with this book include e-mail addresses and listserv discussion groups. The authors also offer online support: their e-mail addresses are printed in the preface. Step-by-step instructions include realistic on-line exercises and demonstrations written expressly for college students (including research for English, History, Maths etc). The basic concepts behind each concept are covered: students will be able to adapt to new platforms and tools of the future. Coverage of Mosaic, Netscape, WAIS (Wide Area Information System), WWW (World Wide Web), and other hot topics are included. This text is also available in either a Macintosh or UNIX version.
