A new ATA IDE disk controller
driver that supports Ultra DMA transfers and ATA/66 transfer
modes. The system now has a jail() system call and administration
utility for additional flexibility in creating secure process
environments.

FreeBSD's virtual memory system's anonymous storage subsystem
(The swap pager) has been completely revamped for better stability
and performance. A new pcm sound driver now supports many new
sound chipsets.

Driver support has been added for popular RAID controllers such
as the AMI MegaRAID and Mylex DAC960 families. Support for many
new fast Ethernet cards has been added including the ADMtec Inc.
AL985 Centaur chipset, the Adaptec Duralink PCI controllers,
the Sundance Technologies ST201 controller, the Silicon Integrated
Systems SiS 900 and Sis 7016 controllers, the Davicom DM9100
and DM 9102 controllers, and many more.

Improved Plug and Play detection of sound cards. IPv6 support
has been improved.

FreeBSD comes standard with:

FreeBSD is based on Berkeley 4.4 BSD, developed by the University
of California, Berkeley, and its contributors. System Requirements:

including Pentium, AMD K5/K6/K7, Cyrix 586 or better), 16MB RAM,
100MB disk space for a binary-only system and 375 MB for a full
development system.
