Emily is an emerging screenwriter and playwright. Before becoming a writer, she trained as an actor at RADA. In 2018 she won a place on Channel 4's 4Screenwriting Course. She was selected to be part of the BBC Wales Writersroom group 'Welsh Voices' in 2019. Her acclaimed play, Pavilion, premiered at Theatr Clwyd in 2019, directed by Tamara Harvey. In 2020 she was nominated to be one of the writers on the Nationwide Voices programme with the English Touring Theatre. She was also commissioned by Theatr Clwyd to write her play Atlantis, which won the George Devine Award in 2021. She has a TV comedy drama series in development with Little Door Productions and the BBC, and a film project in development with Riot Time Pictures.
They all convene at this place, the local Friday night disco, the Pavilion or 'Pivvy': once a grand old theatre for the upper echelons, now a drafty old cavernous wasteland for the hoi polloi. I've seen more blood, puke and tears than anyone should ever have to and I'm back every Friday night to witness more. Dance. Drink. Fight. Snog. Music pounds, lager flows, lust grinds and fists fly. A small town in a forgotten corner of Wales, full of big personalities and every one of them out for the final Friday night disco at the Pavilion. Like the local school and the public library, it's about to be shut down. Pavilion, a dark comedy by Emily White, premiered at Theatr Clwyd in September 2019.
An ambitious play for today.
