Anna Harwell Celenza is a professor at John Hopkins University. Her first two books, 'The Early Works of Niels W. Gade' and 'Hans Christian Andersen and Music', grew out of her graduate work with R. Larry Todd. Her essay in this volume relates to her forthcoming book 'On the Record: Music that Changed America'. Katharina Uhde is a violinist - musicologist and practice - based researcher. She holds positions at Valparaiso University and LMU Munich. She is the author of 'The Music of Joseph Joachim', coeditor of two books, and has edited for Bärenreiter two compositions by Joseph Joachim.
