Here to teach game design students the ins-and-outs of designing games for the casual market are two leading authorities in game design, Ernest Adams and Martha Sapeta.  In Casual and Social Games: Advanced Game Design students  will learn casual game design in depth, with an emphasis on Facebook and other social network games. The book covers everything from the initial game production to maintaining a live game, and focuses on the challenges of designing casual live games versus more hardcore PC and console titles. Topics also include user tests and how they inform design choices, metrics and what role they’ll play in a game’s design, economies of a live game, how to make money and convert users to hardcore gamers, and details on keeping things fresh once a game is no longer new.

Ernest Adams is a 23-year veteran of the video game industry as programmer, producer, game designer and design consultant. Founder of the International Game Developers' Association, he has also been a successful Pearson author (New Riders Games and Prentice Hall) since 2003. Some of his books include Fundamentals of Game Design and Game Mechanics: Advanced Game Design (with Joris Dormans). Martha Sapeta is a game industry veteran of 10+ years and has been developing Facebook games for over 4 years. She teaches game design courses for Art Institute of California San Diego. Martha has worked on a variety of hardcore and casual games, with the most recent focus being casual social games. Some of her recent titles include Blackwood & Bell Mysteries, Sorority Life, and City Girl.
