This is a set of two videos which discuss the functional assessment of the elderly. The first part, "Cognitive and Special Senses", prepares nurses to evaluate the abilities of elderly patients and recognize age-related physiological changes. It defines skills and relates them to activities of daily life: reading, writing, spending money, taking medication and using the telephone. Part two, "Activities of Daily Living", shows nurses how to make the most of each individual's capacity and help clients maintain their lifestyle. Viewers can learn how to use assessment data to plan appropriate nursing interventions. Coverage includes eating, ambulating, toileting and grooming, climbing stairs, shopping, keeping house, interacting with others, and travelling. The programme examines the cardiovascular, respiratory, neuromuscular, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary systems and their effect on elderly patients' functions.
